What is ACES?
The Association of Christian Educators and Scholars (ACES) is a group of
Christian Homeschoolers of various denominations and affiliations in the Sherman /
Denison / Texoma area.
ACES members meet once a week on Fridays in a Unit-Study based Homeschool
Co-op.
ACES offers classes for school-age children Kindergarten through Senior
Highschool. (Nursery and Preschool classes are offered for siblings of K-12
enrolled students only.)
We meet on Fridays 8:45 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
What's special about the ACES Co-op classes?
Most of the classes at the ACES co-op with be part of a semester-long unit study.
Unit studies work well for teaching all disciplines; including, history, geography,
literature, science, the arts, physical fitness, and mathematics. This popular
approach is applied in our co-op setting, lending a "theme" to our semester of
learning. Each parent/teacher is encouraged to utilize his/her gifts in the classroom
while approaching the unit-study topic in either enrichment or academic setting.
How many choices can we offer the kids? As the various grade levels travel toward
the same goal in a unit study approach ~ the sky's the limit! There is no limit to our
creativity!
Students will build a unit-study notebook of all classes attended, and as the
semester progresses, a growing body of work will be collected by each child. The
ACES co-op teacher is free to be creative in her approach with academics,
educational projects, scrapbooking, and timeline building.
While academics are emphasized, there will be plenty of fun incorporated, too!
Teacher's training and curriculum resources will be available, while the students
become involved by leading assembly time and running student government.
